Today is our free day! I imagined myself to be going to the market with my host family doing groceries for the upcoming week. But nah, the group went to monteverde, a place where it's supposed to be beautifully breathtaking.
The package cost USD$90, which includes one night's worth of accommodation, breakfast the following day, and a canopy tour. The tour also includes ziplining and tarzan swing in the canopy.
I've done ziplining in a canyon before, and did the world's largest swing in New Zealand already, wouldn't wanna spend money on doing the same thing again.
Instead, I followed Jerry's (the guide and host of Spanish language school) recommendation and traveled to Poaz national park for some volcano sightseeing. But the downside is that I have to take two buses on my own to get there. Luckily Natasha and Bronte were up for it too.
I had to wake up damn early in the morning. And grateful that my host mom woke up early too to make me coffee, fruits platter, and fruit loops cereal. Hopefully I can get bread and eggs for breakkie tomorrow morning. haha no likey sweet cereals. And their milk seemed like it's made from powder and packaged as the UHL long life milk. They don't have fresh milk like in Aussie, which is strange because I've been a lot of cows in their farms..
We made it there to the volcano eventually despite having lots of difficulties trying to find the bus terminal to Poaz volcano. Lucky us got seats and the bus ride there was about 1.5 hours. Holy mama the roads are seriously windy.
It was surprisingly freezing up there gosh. It was also drizzling. And and and dat wind oh gosh, can fight with Melbourne. Umbrella is not a wise choice as it'll turn inside out. Even my poncho is all over my face. you can see in the photos at the end of this post.
(Photos will be uploaded at the end of the post because my previous app really sucks at publishing and all my drafted posts were gone! So nowbim using the main blogger mobile app, which doesn't allow me to post photos in between texts.)
Hahaha Bronte laughed at me when I took out my poncho and said, "that's garbage bag!"
Lol at least I'm safe from getting drenched. I love how she's so blunt though.
We hiked up to the top for a magnificent volcanic view. But heaven mama loves us so much that she made the volcano area like heaven. The fog didn't clear and all I saw was white.
Yea, 3 of us were really disappointed, but since we were already there, we tried to make the best out of it. We were trying to take photos as if we were utterly awed by the picturesque volcano view.
There are no hot food or proper food at the cafe and I was spamming coffee and hot chocolate for lunch. Otherwise I'd be so grumpy if my tummy is unsatisfied. That wouldn't be nice for another 1.5 hours return bus ride.
Didn't get seats for my return bus ride and I stood the whole way back. Got back to Ala juela and Natasha wanted to go back so eagerly. I wanted to explore the area a bit. But eventually she followed Bronte and I because she's not comfortable taking the bus back to Heredia alone. I don't really understand why... But oh well, I have to understand that she's still 18 and this is her first time traveling alone without her family. There was a point when Bronte told her that she's sucha baby.
Ah dang dang.. Natasha felt insulted. And there goes, girlies heart to heart talk and directly expressing what they were upset about each other. I find it amusing that they're able to say such things to each other having only known each other for 5 days. I will only bother telling those stuffs to my closer friends. I was just listening and commenting how ignorant I was with my surroundings. I still am and I really don't mind being like this. If not I would be really concerned about my failed communication skills with them. I'm like an accent outcast in the group. But I'm still able to fit into some groups of people. There you go.. there are already small cliques forming and I guess this is inevitable across all cultures.
Oh well, it wasn't the best day in Costa Rica, but I'm glad I managed to explore out of my town on my own. Even if I knew it'd be this foggy, I will still go! Staying at home for a free Sunday trying to figure Spanish is the last thing I would wanna do.
