Whenever I cycle in Singapore, it was a breeze in the park because of the straight roads. Nobody cares if you are riding a road bike or a mountain bike. It will only make a difference if you are riding a stunt bike.
Today, I went on a mountain biking excursion with the ymca youth services team at Lake Dewar. It was such a treasured experience. One hour drive away from the city of Melbourne and into the far suburb. The deserted roads, trees, grass which are all dried up, most importantly, MOUNTAINS AFTER MOUNTAINS.
At first, I imagined today to be like a cycling day similar to East Coast Park. But, I was wrong... There are roads which felt like ECP, but that only equates to about 0.5% of the entire track. Most of the tracks were narrow to the extent that if you were to swerve your bike slightly left or right (off the track), you are most probably gonna perform a tumble tum-pom-boom-kazhabam-poooooom down the slope. Then the team is probably gonna show an ultimate dramatic expression and jump off our bikes to save you. It was like a movie. I felt like I just walked into the screen. The scenery was breathtaking. Singapore is beautiful, but for that moment when I saw kangaroos hopping across mountains UNDERNEATH my feet, I swear it won Singapore hands down. But of course this is an unfair comparison. SG still holds the champion title when it comes to city view like skylines, night lightings and infrastructures.
In exchange, there were stretches of bumpy roads and upslopes. Think of an up slope as a face with lots of ACNE. The holes on the ground (or rather, soil) were EVERYWHERE. I tell you, when I was getting started on the track, I had this "WTH DID I GET MYSELF INTO" thought. It was really a tough ride. As I thought I was quite a good cyclist considering the fact that I'm a female, this mountain biking experience really made me realised that there's always a mountain standing taller than the one you knew. 天外有天! There were roads where I skidded and almost flew off. Thank goodness I came back in a piece.
This made me love Melbourne even more. I'm so glad that I am out today to see something soooo magnificient. Feeling very contented now even though my butt and my xx is hurting like a bitch.
