Costa Rica Day 18: When yours truly bothered showering twice before lunch and dinner, you'll know it's too hot.

Just finished my second last shift at the hatchery from 6pm-12mn. The last 6 hours hatchery was a torture but this shift was surprisingly good. Somemore I was with Grace, super aussie kinda and it was my first shift with her. Even before this, I didn't really have an 1-on-1 chat with her. I was expecting a shift like us just doing our own stuffs (eg: writing our journals/reading), but it was one of the best shifts I had.

Firstly, she was pretty easy to talk to. That really surprised me because she gave me the vibe that she can't be bothered to talk to me since we don't have much in common. But she asked about me, like where do I learn my English. Hahaha I think she thought Sg is like another Asian country using another language. Or even a subdiv of China cos sometimes I spoke Mandarin with Sheila. And she even asked about Charles. That's when I found out she knows how to speak bahasa Indonesian. Bahahaba... What a way to find out... That was the last thing I would have guessed from her. Imagine a blind girl speaking bahasa haahaha. Not only can she speak, she studies it at uni level, which means she also studies the culture along with that. Apparently she took it when she was in primary school and that's the kind of thing which you just went through with it just because you don't want to "waste" the efforts before. Having said that, I really wanna brush up my Japanese again. That is one language which I never got sick of and I enjoyed the sounds from the language without whatever influence like anime or cosplay. It's just the language I'm interested in..

Alrighty back to hatchery shift... I also found out that she's from Perth, but moved to Sydney with her Melbourne boyfriend to work and study biology on top of her arts degree (done in Perth). Interesting how she made that move and I was just another lost soul after graduation asking her about her decisions.

Secondly, she was really on and patient to learn the game "bridge" although I wasn't that completely sure when I was teaching her. I thrashed her at the beginning but when she started to pick it up, she started winning many rounds in a row.

Thirdly, we were alternating between books and cards and the book I'm currently reading is getting more and more exciting. It's "Perfect Match" by Jodi Picoult. I think I cannot finish the book in time before I leave on Tuesday morning, but I think I'll borrow the book again when I go back to sg. Or even buy it if I happened to chanced upon it in the bookstores at the airports.

Otherwise, today was not a bad day despite it started really early since I had a 6am-9am hatchery shift. Went back for breakfast which was unusual - rice beans cheese and tortilla.

Headed for station straight after for activity. We had some modified beach volleyball game (without the net) at the beach in replacement for Yami's cooking class. That was not the best sports I enjoyed, but some exercise definitely made me happy.

I finished ALL the food from lunch. We had rice, patatas (something like mashed potato but harder form) plantains and beans.

But straight after lunch we have a cooking lesson at Virgina (Yami's mom) place and she taught us how to make the corn flour tortilla. It was quite cool to see that their cooking stove is from the stone itself and they burn wood to make the fire for cooking. old school much?

Digna's stove is a gas stove so she has this mini gas tank beside the stove. Hahaha and there's a turkey sitting in the stove still alive but apparently its neck was broken. It's gonna be someone's dinner lol.

The whole backyard was full of free range chickens and turkeys and geese. We also played some soccer with the little kids there but they were getting so serious and all this one boy was so damn good we ended up just standing there and watch him play.

When the tortillas are ready, we have to eat the tortillas omg I swear I was so damn full! It was about 3pm.. and because I have a 6pm-12mn shift, my dinner was scheduled at 5pm. Gg mama lah, how to eat like that! Eventually, I told Digna about it and she very nicely packed my dinner into a small box which u can bring to the hatchery and eat them when I'm hungry later during the night. That made my Hatchery shift really good too. Cos on top of a good chat sesh, good card games, good book, my tummy was also settled on good food. All set.

I will then awkwardly end this post announcing that I showered twice today frigging weather here!!!!
