2.11.12

Don't allow the convenience of instant updates take over because then, I am seized of the chance to know you.

After a few encounters with short term memory, literary forgetting what I did for the previous week, or even last few days, I thought I should do something about this.

JY suggested to capture a photograph of my main activity that day. I will try to blog more often. It gives me a sense of satisfaction because I managed to put my thoughts into words, even if it's just that 0.1% of what is going through my mind.

Blogging took off when I was in upper primary with this exact url. But as you can see, my first post is from 2007, when I was 15. You know, anger and impulsivity are such powerful emotions that are capable of overpowering our initial belief and conscience. Eventually, we do things which we can never ever justify. Just one click, ALL the words that I had painstakingly (at least I choose to believe so) typed out and crafted were gone. Not a stain left on the www. I have no recollection of what I had written before, except for 3 posts.

1. Something about my school's x-country. I believe that was blogged while I was in my lower secondary school time. Forgotten the content.

2. Went out to Vivocity with Fiona. Vivo was a new mall then, and it was a hot spot for people to explore and hang around, especially at the garden area with water playground. I remembered I was really excited about this outing. It was quite tough to get permission from my parents to go out to shopping malls to hang out. Budget issues were such a pain too. I have to be very buay paiseh (thick-skinned) and ask for allowance. Don't you think it's so different now? Last minute plan an outing, last minute inform parents (mind you, not even asking. Just telling.), just go only. It's probably due to that we lost the kind of excitement we used to have in the past when an outing has to be planned way before so that we can get permission approved. Seldom will there be anyone who will back out at the last minute. That was one of the reasons why I was so excited about this Vivo trip.

The second reason was because I got a new phone - Nokia 7610. The camera was a revolution. I think it was one of the few phones (at that time lah) which the camera is ONE MEGAPIXEL!!! Damn good quality already if you compare it to the VGA phone camera. So I was really excited to bring this phone out to snap photos and post it up on my blog and on friendster (don't judge)! Gosh, thinking back, my previous pink phone which I used till April this year was a VGA camera. Worse than what I had before!! In case you forgot the model, here's a picture for your reference. Funny how Ling Ying and I are able to remember almost all the phone models.. Phone models from those days were all made up of numbers somemore!! Study for Mathematics also not so hardworking... :x

Nokia 7610

The third reason was due to the lack of things to blog during that period of time. The famous bloggers during that era were mostly outgoing people, spending their time hanging around, taking photos and posting pretty pictures. So I thought I could take some nice photos and upload on my own blog so that I can look cool. It's like waving my hands right into your face shouting, "OH HELLO! I WENT TO NEW MALL VIVOCITY ON XX DAY AND TOOK SOME PHOTOS WITH MY NEW PHONE WHICH HAS A CAMERA THAT IS 1 MEGAPIXEL!!! LOOK AT ME, HOW COOL IS THAT!"

Haha, what was I thinking back then...

3. Lastly, the first Global Chinese Music Awards (GCMA) I went with Ning. I think it was 6 years ago when we were 14?? I brought my bulky Olympus camera out. 4MP but the zoom was really good. 10x Optical zoom and 20x digital zoom. Hahaha.. Can't believe it. Cameras were really the "in" thing those days because phone cameras were not so well-developed back then. Today, most people took the easy way out (highly possible due to its convenience) and go around taking pictures with their phones. Ok, one guilty soul here.

Back to GCMA... Ning and I took tons of photographs! I remembered she just rebonded her hair so it was super straight. We wore the same shirt we bought at FEP. Hers was black and mine was white. She was damn pretty that night I swear. I looked at the preview after snapping photographs of ourselves, I was quite affected. "Why Ning so pretty and I look like shit?" Hahahaha!! Omg, so childish.

What was even more childish... Ning and I blogged about this GCMA and published the post together AT THE SAME TIME. Ning even made a digital banner which states that the GCMA posts were EXCLUSIVE only to both of our blogs! We shared the photos we took and posted almost the same photographs. The funny thing is the EXCLUSIVE part!! HAHAHA!! I bet if I were the organiser for GCMA and saw the posts, I would be thinking, "Woa, who are this two siao gina! Self-proclaiming themselves as our official blogger?! Exclusive leh."

Hahaha. Funny stuffs... But I cleared all those away. These were only 3 out of so many over hundred of posts. I bet I will be laughing my ass off if I were to read back now. Sometimes when I read back to my earlier posts, I felt like an idiot too. Why did I write such stuffs... It's all very silly, but oh wells, there wouldn't be such a word if it isn't used to describe anyone so it's ok. The silly moments can be funny memories which we can read back and have a good laugh, really.

Although I deleted my blog, I continued blogging at other domains. Mostly on Xanga, and on wordpress after that. Been moving around quite often. Then Nuffnang came about and only blogger is able to host the ad banners, so I eventually moved back here. Chose back to the same URL. (Maybe URL story another time) I'm not earning money from it because of the pathetic traffic flow to this space, but actually the traffic doesn't matter to me. I only need people who matter to hear my thoughts. I always fail when it comes to the discipline in keeping diaries, so I guess blogging is one way to keep it going.

But I'm aware of my bad habit... When it gets busy, I wouldn't even bother finding time to start a post.
NEED TO UPDATE CONSISTENTLY.

My language is amateurish. The way I phrased my sentences is a real bore. My limited vocabulary will result in you seeing the same words repeatedly. All in all, my writing sucks. I read my friends' blogs and it's amazing. These people write well. I won't say I need to improve my command of language to continue this blog because that will defeat the purpose of an informal blog. It's personal, so I don't see any need to write perfectly as if I'm a publishing author when in actual fact, I speak Singlish + Chinglish + Broken English most of the time. But I'm happy to say I did improve comparing to the earlier posts.

I am very very very pleased that my closer group of friends are blogging actively. BBJLB, you girls are doing well! I will visit Ning's blog first, followed by JY's and lastly, Amanda's. It's in this order not because of favouritism but based on the frequency of updates. These are the 3 blogs I will never forget to read.

Primary school friends like JJ, Charmaine, Ling Ying, and Fiona were my must-read blogs too. But not anymore. What is there to read when they don't blog anymore? Them blogging was the only way for me to know how are they doing in their new secondary schools and to keep up with their lives. Eventually, I couldn't get to Ling Ying's url anymore. Charmaine continued blogging and deleted her blog last year. Did she move to another domain? Maybe I should start asking if they are still blogging or not. JJ has a blog but apparently it's not being updated frequently. Fiona has a blog too. She's such a bitch and I remember we all had to defend her on her tagboard with haters' comments flooding and insulting her. In the end, she took off the tagboard and continued blogging but laziness took over and she stopped the updates. I will go back to their blogs occasionally to check for any new updates, but Twitter and Facebook had more instant updates. It's clearer to see their lives, but a huge plunge in understanding their thought processes.

Sometimes, I would visit Wenxi's blog. Honestly, I think she writes damn well. There were some emotional posts which convey the message across so freaking well. I wouldn't be able to do it. Who is able to sit down thinking about how to construct the language, how to form the correct sentence structures, and which vocabulary to use when he/she is feeling like a useless piece of shit?! I would just cry to sleep or if I have the mood, I would probably write something like "I'm a useless piece of shit." on my blog. But Wenxi always choose the right words which have the ability to influence my thoughts and most importantly, I feel for her.

Other than that, I will also visit Sailorsirs' blogs. Actually I only read Beatrice's blog from time to time. As for the rest of the girls, I will only visit when I see the link lying around because I cannot remember their blog URLs. I will also visit blogs of the famous people in the blogosphere.

It's really very rare to have friends who not only bother to blog, but also maintained it well. In the past, I can spend up to a few hours reading blogs, but today, I don't deny the trend is diminishing. Please don't give this up.

Anyway, I went for piano lesson it went quite well. Took a bus back to NP for a jog. Gave up after the 15th round. 20 rounds were considered chicken feet to me in the past. It's okay, I blame it on the age. Went home for dinner but was very thirsty and craved for hot soup, so I cooked egg seaweed soup! My mom gave me a pass! Nyehehehe.. Very happy and lied on the sofa while watching Kim Taku (?!) on Channel U. Mom had some leftover mask so I put on the remaining.

New social media these days just make my photos in this space repetitive and boring.
I posted this on Ig which majority of you can gain access to with just one tap.

Got feel to blog, but nothing in mind to write about. Clicked on "Create new post" button and generated this chunk of words. I'm supposed to sleep early tonight because my day starts at 8am all the way to approximately 11pm tomorrow later, but I got too carried away.

Lastly, I've been trying to figure out how to use Tumblr. Add me if you have one too!

yanjingc.tumblr.com

Thank you for reading and goodnight :)

Hahaha interesting post. I agree though. Is really sad to see people moving on from blogs to pictures (ig) and 140 characters (twitter). It is really not enough to know someone. Of cos blog isn't everything either, but at least it offers a greater understanding.

It's my pleasure to read your blog. Hope you are keeping it as a habit as well :)

@N Greater understanding compared to twitter/IG. IG is more like a food diary... muahaha. Ya hopefully I won't be so lazy...
