I bought this book titled "Yakuza Moon" about 4 (or maybe 5) years ago. It wasn't unwrapped because I didn't plan to read it. I buy books but don't read them because I know they will be there forever so I can read them anytime I want (which may not happen anyway). Eventually, I gave it to my friend as a birthday gift. Just recently, I chanced upon this book in the school library and my instinct told me to borrow it.
If it's me one year ago, the book might just sit on the desk, collect some dust, and be back on the library shelves again 2 weeks later. I can't believe I am capable of reading a book till the very end.
Anyway, the story was intriguing. It was an eye-opener for me. Ever since I came back from Shanghai, I always thought that my life is messed up, couldn't really piece everything in place. But after reading her story, I thought my life is so smooth-sailing. Her life was in a total MESS. So, if you feel emo elmo, thinks that life is meaningless, or even have suicidal thoughts, GO READ THE BOOK.
If you are a sadist going crazy and happy watching violence and sexual content, go for it! To be honest, I was a little affected and disturbed by the way she described some of her experiences. The power of words and our minds for imagination. Wow.
Ok, as much as I know how much I can benefit from reading, it is still quite hard for me to read constantly. I'd still prefer watching motion pictures.
The first movie I watched was "One Day".
It is a freaking slow moving movie. I almost fell asleep. But maybe if you are someone who thinks a lot, have deep thoughts every now and then, you will find the message behind this movie very powerful. Because I'm someone who is into action-packed, fast paced editing kind of movie, One Day just wasn't my cup of tea. Moreover, I'm a very superficial person without much intellectuality. Afterthoughts was nothing but "Anne Hathaway is so hot. She's so damn hot. Sooooo beautiful. The eyes... Omg. How can she look so good in all sorts of hairstyle?! Ok, this is an unfair world."
The Notebook, similarly, has its story revolves around love. I heard it's a super sad story and you will cry your eyes out. I feel that the touching(emotionally. not physically.) element was quite subtle. Hmmmm, or maybe I am not very easily touched? Well, the love in the movie was amazing. But because it will never happen in today's environment, I cannot really relate much to the movie. It's more like a fairy tale. After watching this movie, I just felt that the world today is pathetic.
