During the last holiday, I went crazy over cooking and making my own food. I downloaded recipes from the internet and browsed recipe books at the library. The entire experience was quite fun, but honestly, it was really time-consuming and the results will either be really positive, or it'll suck big time! The following were the stuffs I made..
Pancakes. Self-made dough ok!! With Anko from Japan!! |
With Cheese |
With Kaya from Malaysia |
More Cheese... |
Home-made Mango shaved ice. Not too bad, but would prefer Ice Monster's. |
2nd attempt in making sushi. |
Not very attractive but it was really a thousand times better than the first try.. |
Pasta!! I'm gonna cook pasta for myself frequently when I go China! It's easy and delicious and healthy(minus the sauce). |
1st attempt in making Daifuku. It was freaking time-consuming (It took me 1.5hours) and annoying (because it's very sticky and messy). Look at the fillings.. The skin couldn't hold the fillings well. It was so tough to cook the skin to the right texture. Mine was too soft, not strong enough to hold in the anko paste... :( |
Covered the spilling anko paste with black bean powder. $2 per packet from Daiso. |
Tasted not that bad lah. I guess expensive anko paste saved these Daifukus. |
Attempt in making matcha ice-cream! Blending the green tea leaves from some tea farm in Japan! |
With milk all... |
Leaving it to freeze. |
Done! But well, it tasted like shit. And I really mean the poop taste. I don't know what went wrong. |
Ok, it looked like shit as well. |

I cooked Chanpon noodles with shitake too! When I was cooking that, I was damn hungry so I forgot to take pictures and it is the best out of all those above! That was quite easy to cook, unlike the ice-cream and daifuku. I bought the noodles from Isetan and the instructions were very easy to follow.
Isetan sells a lot of interesting Japanese food stuffs and there're a lot of pre-made packed food items which are very easy to make and cook (like the chanpon noodles). Although it's really a little expensive, I think it's worth it because the quality is better and the taste is also better. But of course cannot afford to eat those stuffs everyday.
Things like Daifuku and green tea ice-cream, better buy from outside. It's so much easier and taste so much better. Even if it's a little pricey, I really won't mind paying after experiencing the pain and trouble in the making process personally.
I can't wait to live in Shanghai for 5 months! Then, I can learn how to cook more dishes and most important, to plan my breakfast every morning!!
Speaking of breakfast, do anyone have great ideas for a healthy breakfast? I need more ideas!

Wa! I like this entry a lot! I know you make waffle... But didn't know you experimented so much on other food, so interesting! I think your future boyfriend/husband is quite lucky!
But anyway it sounds so fun, I'm gonna try them out too! You must share the recipe haha!
Ning
But no meat for my boyfriend/husband... So also not considered very lucky..
Recipe is available online everywhere! I copied them out on a notebook but I have to find it because I moved so a lot of stuffs went missing!
Omgosh, i didn't know 你也开始进厨房了!哈哈哈哈!The waffles look great :D
Of course! It's so much cheaper to make food on your own rather than buy it outside. But, outside one taste nicer though.. haha!
Looks great but taste so-so only... Waffles at any bakery taste better!
